No West, Young Man

Well, I heard back from Clarion West. Two months ago, I applied to the 2008 writing program in Seattle, and tonight I got their answer:
We are sorry to let you know that you were not selected for this year's class. We had a record number of applicants, and because the workshop can hold only eighteen students we could not find room for all of the promising writers.
So that's a signal. Not what I was hoping for, but hey, if I want to be a writer, I'd better get used to rejection, right? And plenty of it!

Still waiting to hear from Clarion (the original, in San Diego). Not looking good for our hero...

I haven't heard from Clarion SD yet either. Cripes, it's Monday, send out the emails already. What can take so long? I have this fantasy I'm on a wait list or something, but it's more likely I'm on somebody's 'to do' list, and they forgot to hit 'send' before they left on Friday.

Put up a note when you get the mail, would you? I'm looking around on blogs to see what I can see, but it's strangely silent. One guy put up an "I got in" note, but then took it down. I think perhaps they're not supposed to talk until all the no-thank-you notes are out, or something.

So I think I'm not in, either. Oh well. I'll go buy a boat with the money to make myself feel better.

I liked your 365 short-shorts.

Hey Kevin, thanks for the kind words. Clarion just rejected me this morning. There's always next year...
