I agree. I just wish I could pay for this content that I'm seeing in such a better way.Jeff Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06363461318202809287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12536328.post-89357215385054263892009-03-05T17:17:00.000-08:002009-03-05T17:17:00.000-08:00It's all FUD and paranoia, plus the fact that midd...It's all FUD and paranoia, plus the fact that middlemen don't like losing their jobs. The studios will hang on until we pry control of distribution from their cold, dead hands.

I refer you to this excerpt from Leverage co-creator John Rogers' 2007 blog post, Re-Arranging the Deck Chairs:

"""
A while ago, a very smart producer and I cooked up a way to, basically, finance a pilot for zero cost. It was a very particular type of show, with very particular economic possibilities on DVD ... but it could be done, with product placement, pre-sales, etc. To tell you the truth, it made perfect sense to do 13 of the goddam things, it was as sure a bet as you'll find in Hollywood that we'd at least break even. And if I just managed to break even on a show I loved, then I consider that a big damn win.

So, very excited, the producer and I meet with a Very Important Studio Human. We lay out the model. The Studio Human nods. He says "That would absolutely work."

Beat.

"But it would put everybody in this building ..." He then pointed out his window to an adjacent office structure, "... and everybody in that building out of a job."

He leaned forward, sincere.

"Why would I do that?"

I honestly didn't have an answer for him.
"""

Businessmen don't like change. They like gaming the existing system until either it collapses (see current global financial crisis) or someone forces them to play fair (see anti-trust lawsuit of your choice).CKLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05813803474788808773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12536328.post-17420699647179667372009-03-05T15:49:00.000-08:002009-03-05T15:49:00.000-08:00I just want a way to pay for what I already steal....I just want a way to pay for what I already steal. I like the control of having the .AVI file on my computer. I want to be able to play, rewind, all that stuff that's supposed to work with rental systems but DOESN'T. I just want my movie to work, and the best way to do that is to steal it with bittorrent.

I have all the money for all the movies I've watched this way. I WANT to pay it to someone, I just need someone to pay it to. I want a website where I can pay with PayPal, and I want to know that they have the generally agreed right to ditribute the royalties. they don't need to pay a frickin DIME for distribution, I'm already taking care of that just fine for them.

I just need someplace to legitimately pay for the things I'm already stealing.

-jeffJeff Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06363461318202809287noreply@blogger.com
